Hi, I’m illustrator Yimeng Li, also known as jeanjeanzhenzhen. I graduated with a Master’s degree in Illustration from the University of the Arts London in 2024, and I’m now living and working in London.

I’ve loved comics and storytelling for as long as I can remember. In primary school, I subscribed to Mickey Mouse magazines and carefully traced every cartoon panel with a pen. Around that same time, I would share original stories with my friends during lunchtime — one episode each day. I still cherish those memories, especially the way my friends looked forward to the next part of the story.

Although I studied Cultural Industry Management at university, that experience has significantly aided my illustration journey. During that time, I worked for two years as a workshop assistant at a studio that brought together Chinese intangible cultural heritage artisans. This inspired me to start running creative workshops on my own, hoping to share my passion.

Since 2020, I’ve been creating visual stories through illustration. I’ve explored comics, picture books, surface pattern design, and artistic merchandise. My work often revolves around tender, sometimes complex moments of being human — stories of family, time, friendships, work, or school bullying.

I enjoy working across different media: sometimes I start with printmaking textures and collage, then refine the details digitally. I also love illustrating with soft pastels, drawn to their expressive, emotional quality. At times, I use Procreate — one of my comics was fully created there — though when it comes to storyboarding, pencil on paper is still my favourite.
